Granularity, the art of breaking things down

Here's a possibly useful discussion of how to approach breaking things down for writing a paper. It's written by an English professor for the blog Life Hack. Life Hack is a website that talks about all kinds of ways to become more productive, efficient, and get more value from your time and work. Take a look at Granularity For Students. You may find some useful advice (the comments underneath the post are also interesting, I think).

FYI, other popular sites devoted to "life hacking" are Lifehacker, 43 Folders and 43 Things.
